Specialized Trainings
Equity In Education
NCLA joined fellow cohorts, DPLA, NELA V and NELA VI at The Franklinton Center at Bricks to examine the role of equity in education. As a former slave plantation, Bricks provided the context to examine how far we have come, but also how much deeper we needed to go in exploring the topics of race, privilege and bias and their effects on student achievement.

Multi-Tiered System of Supports
Literacy
My literacy training through the Hill Center not only provided an in depth look at developing literacy skills in our students, but offered very practical solutions and specific exercises to lead students to success in reading. The focus this training placed on the Principal as literacy leader and champion has inspired me to make this a priority in my role as a school leader.

NCLA's visit to the American Enterprise Institute in Washington D.C. provided a policy view from the Federal level. Author Rick Hess, who currently serves as resident scholar and director of education policy studies, was our moderator and host for the event. Dr. Hess convened multiple panels to discuss and analyze policy making from various angles. He inspired us to not view federal policy and policy makes as the enemy, but to tap in to the power we hold as administrators to help improve our current system of education.
Our visit to the nations capitol provided an opportunity for us to reflect on the field we are entering and the many brave people who fought to get us here. |
The Ron Clark Academy aims, "To be the best school in the world by demonstrating transformative methods and techniques that are embraced and replicated everywhere." It is a shining example of what school can be with dedicated and motivated staff who inspire students to have "no fear." As a school leader I will continue to mine the techniques used at the Ron Clark Academy and encourage my staff to do the same.
